Daedius' Chicken Recipe of Uber-Deliciousness

By popular demand. My secret recipe! Shhh! =X

The Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

1 cup plain yogurt

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 teaspoons ground cumin

2 teaspoons ground red pepper

2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

1 piece ginger, minced (1/2-inch long) or 1 teaspoon ginger powder

1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch cubes

Sauce

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 jalapeno chile, minced

2 teaspoons ground coriander

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon garam masala

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

1 cup whipping cream

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

The Method

Mariande:

Combine yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, red pepper, black pepper, cinnamon, salt and ginger in a zip lock plastic bag - shake and let sit for 15 - 30 mins.

Stir in chicken, marinate in refrigerator 1 hour or more.

Thread chicken onto skewers (or place in grill pan) and grill until done.

Melt butter in a large, deep skillet over medium heat, add garlic and jalapeno; cook 1 minute.

Stir in coriander, cumin, paprika, garam masala and salt.

Stir in tomato sauce, simmer 15 minutes, stir in cream; simmer until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.

Add grilled chicken to sauce and simmer until chicken is heated.

Serve over basmati rice or naan (or roti, or chapati, or tortilla, or other flatbread).

Please note, this above recipe is VERY spicy. There are few tricks to pulling this recipe off nicely:

Give yourself enough time ( it takes awhile to cook this recipe ). This recipe takes 3 hours from start to finish for me.

Know how your going to grill your chicken: I've done broiler, on the fire grill, and on the skillet with this recipe. All methods work pretty well with varying outcomes of texture

White meat is better for eating this recipe like a stew, Dark meat chicken makes this recipe very moist and better for sandwhich fillings

Find a good flatbread you like: I like plain white rice or wheat tortillas most. But home made nan is the best to have if you have the time. Pita bread can be hit or miss.

If you do make it too spicy, a little vinigar will tone down the spice

Do not get the largest jalapeno you can find for this recipe!

BE VERY CAREFUL CUTTING THE JALAPENO

Enjoy!

Feel free to post your favorite recipes below if you want. Life is too short to horde deliciousness. =)
Ubuntu 8.10 Rocks!

It's been awhile since I delved back into the Ubuntu world. The release of 8.10 today sparked my curiosity again. I must say, this was the best installation yet:

- sound worked automatically
- nvidia card detected and given the option to enable
- good speed
- all my network setup automagically

The whole install was easier than windows honestly. First I boot up into livecd, start up the install, and browse firefox while it does its thing. No stupid cd key or anything. After getting it up, I start installing some apps. And I'm golden. Here's a breakdown of what I do on my box and what applications

web: firefox
mail: thunderbird
music: banshee
im: pidgin
games: secondlife
mp3: amazon mp3 music

Absolutely great stuff and not a dime from me. Only thing I use windows now for is work. That whole making money thing. Bah.

G1: Googles First Phone

Today, T-Mobile announced the release of the G1 - google's first phone. I can't tell you how much i'm psyched. This phone embodies ideals I believe in: open source, google, and connectivity without borders. Asside from idealistic opinions, here's some of the hard facts that I love:

3G/Edge/Wi-fi == connectivity almost anywhere

3 MB camera for taking pictures of random things

Trackball that functions well for video games

Dedicated slide out keyboard that doesn't take up screen space while I type

179 price w/ 2 year contract

Wide screen

Google apps galore built in

Amazon MP3 store

Austin/San Antonio 3G coverage

Release in October 22nd!

Here's the video, worth the watch!

http://www.t-mobileg1.com/g1-announcement.aspx
Holy Hell Amazon, Thankyou!

I often face a choice in my head. Do I embrace a system which makes my life easier but more restricted, or one which is harder but in the end liberating. For a long while I've been very pissed of because this contention has divided me ( in some sense paralyzed me ) in my desire to want to buy anymore music. I always seem to go through these thoughts:

- If I start buying iTunes, not only will my wallet burn up faster that gummi bears in potassium chlorate, but I'll be locked into Apple with all my costly music
- If I stick close to Linux, I'll never be able to play apple music without a huge hassle, or be able to get much music that I actually want without having to turn to illegal sources
- If I buy CDs I'll not only be environmentally wasteful, but i'll be encouraging the continuation of archaic system of media on material CDs rather than actually encouraging online distribution of music I can do whatever the hell I want.
- I can't go on listening and watching music on youtube forever =/ I want a sound track to my life

Well, I discovered something amazing. Amazon.com MP3 store. Not only do they have music from almost any artist I can think of wanting to hear, they are cross platform, web based, and their format is MP3 which I can use however I please! All I can say is, I think this is the future of how music should be. I shall have to experiment. It's been a long long while since I bought music, so I'm crossing my fingers and I will let you know of my experiences in a review if I'm impressed.

Working to Be Me

Choosing what to do with ones life is a very difficult task. It shouldn't be taken lightly though it seems we all step in deeply. I chose a path sometime ago, perhaps, without realizing it, to be a geek. I chose to be an ambitious geek who saw no limits to his talent or time to what I could create or do with 1s and 0s in a machine. I chose this above all other things in my life, and have done well by society's standards.

What better role to play for a male in high-tech society at the golden age of computers? Probably very few. I speak this with little ego, so don't think I'm just stroking my cock over here by this. My point to this, is merely that there is a trade off to the efforts of one's life. One I've paid over the years and I'm truly starting to grasp the pieces together of. A realization of life's illusion and dreams.

I've sacrificed my ability to be social with people beyond work in any deep and meaningful way. I've surrounded myself with false comforts that this is not true: a wife, cats, and prostitutes in online virtual worlds (good ones at least). All what truly matters to me is The Machine and the love to have a powerful mind. All else has seemed to amount to just diversions to this. And I don't believe I can change.

The End

Netflix Snatcher

So i'm watching Deadwood via Netflix lately. I haven't received the second CD by mail for quite awhile. I was worried something was wrong, then I see that CD 2 has been returned to Netflix. Thank you to the random person out there returning my misdelivered CDs! Faith in Humanity +1

Like and Dislike

Like:

That feeling when you step out of a hot shower, and take a drink of a tall glass of cold water. If your lucky and your still naked, sometimes a drop or two might hit your chest. Its pleasantly exhilarating.

Dislike:

People who call themselves OCD that are obviously not OCD. Ok, I've heard this enough times to really get sick of it. This phrase is NOT a justification to disrupt conversations and activities to do whatever you please. You're fucking neurotic and stop treating it as something to be proud of!
